San Francisco is itself art. Above all it is literary art. Every block is a short story, every hill a novel, every home a poem, every dweller within immortal...
That is the whole truth

North Beach is probably San Francisco's most iconic neighborhood and traditionally home to the city's Italian population. It is a small 30 block area that runs along Columbus Avenue and is bounded by Chinatown, Russian Hill, Fisherman's Wharf and Telegraph Hill. The boundaries of North Beach are, however, rather ambiguous and tend to change frequently based on the whim of the residents and the real estate market. Consequently, it's better to think of North Beach as a state of mind rather than a point on the map.
The alleyways of San Francisco's North Beach are too often overlooked. In Rough Edges: The Alleyways of North Beach Dede Tisone provides an artists' perspective on these hidden treasures. Harvey Hunt supplements the art work with a bit of the hidden lore of one of San Francisco best known neighborhoods. Click to sample the book: Kramer Place Romolo |
